Welcome New England Educators:

The purpose of Learning Forward New England is to build regional, state, and local support for implementing high quality professional learning that improves teaching and learning.

Dear Colleagues,
The Board of Directors of Learning Forward New England are happy to present you with a copy of Learning Forward's revised  Standards for Professional Learning.  As you know Learning Forward (formerly the National Staff Development Council) has been promoting standards in Professional Learning since the original Standards for Staff Development were published in 1994.

The 2011 Standards for Professional Learning include a number of key changes from earlier editions.  The seven standards are more clearly defined.  The standards are holistic and combine to promote core concepts that have been proven to increase educator effectiveness and increased achievement for students.  The Standards for Professional Learning describe the context, process, and content for effective learning.

As you will see, there are extensive resources in the back of this document to guide you in the use of the Standards for Professional Learning.  We urge you to take advantage of this wonderful resource.  On March 30, 2012, Stephanie Hirsch, Executive Director of Learning Forward, will be presenting at our Learning Forward New England Annual Conference on the topic of Assessing Professional Learning through the use of the Standards for Professional Learning.  You can check our website at http://www.learningforwardnewengland.org  in January for details.

Yours,

Barbara Moody

Learning Forward Affiliate Announces Name Change

DALLAS-May 31, 2011-Learning Forward is pleased to announce that its New England affiliate has officially changed its name to Learning Forward New England from the New England Staff Development Council

This change in name solidifies the relationship between Learning Forward and Learning Forward New England. The affiliate provides Learning Forward members the opportunity to expand their professional networks by connecting with other individuals in New England.  More than 35 state and provincial affiliates provide services and programs that connect those who lead or facilitate professional development within individual states, provinces, or regions.
